Feliz 2007, Muchachos!

As always, I ate too much in Honduras and caught up on my sleep.

Carlos, si no me equivoco tomaste fotos esa noche.

We also had the privilege of visiting Litza Flores at her home in beautiful La Esperanza. Always great to catch up with everyone. I'm ready for a US reunion so I can see the rest of you!

Best wishes,

Monica

Hello again and Happy New Year!

Hola chavos! Well, I feel like we have all had a nice break from each other and it is a great time to plan our US reunion. Houston is my choice given the number of classmates that live there. Anyone want to jump up and host this event?? I'm thinking March or April.

I am posting some pictures our our trip to Santa Fe, NM over the holidays. We got record snow and loved every bit of it! Yvette, I know Denver got pounded as well. The kids got lots of regalos from Santa and a grand time was had by all. :)

Virgilio emailed me and said that he was able to get together with Monica Powers, Rolando, Lidia, Roque, Carlos and Yolany in SPS.

Mark

US Reunion Brainstorming

OK, I have recovered from the Honduras reunion exhaustion and am ready to tackle phase 2 of the EILL/LAS reunion. The 2 key elements to decide are date and location.

I suggest the end of October through the middle of November. This should allow for enough planning time w/o losing the enthusiasm that has been building.

I also suggest Houston, given this is Adrian and Aldo's home and it is close for Joseph, Shanon, and myself. It would also be an easy flight for anyone wanting to join us from Honduras and other parts of the country.

Everything else can start coming together once we decide on these 2 ideas. We just need input from everyone who wishes to attend. We can then start mapping out activities, accomodations, etc.

I am certainly open to other dates and locations if this is inconvenient for anyone. Any other thoughts?

Alaska trip photos #2

These pictures are on the glacier and sailing down the inside passage towards Vancouver.

Alaska trip photos

Hi guys! It it great to be back on the EILL blog. I still haven't quite recovered from the trip down to Honduras. We left the following Friday for Anchorage and I am still stuck on AK time. Anyway, at the risk of posting too many pictures, I wanted to show y'all how unbelievably beautiful this part of the world is. There are several ships that cruise in this area and it is very easy to do (after that long 7 hour flight, that is).

My son Andrew and I took a helicopter to the top of a glacier outside of Juneau and got to explore on ice that is slowly moving and almost a mile deep! The blue color of the ice was breathtaking. We also rode some off-rode vehicles to the top of a mountain and saw a grizzly bear and a large black bear. There were bear dropping all along the trail which made everyone a little nervous, but we didn't have any real close encounters. Bald eagles soar like buzzards do here in Texas; they were everywhere!

I would also highly recommend a stay in Vancouver, BC. It reminds me of San Francisco, only cleaner and with flowers, sequoias, and parks on every other block. Water taxis are the preferred method of travel across the city and the people could not have been nicer.

It seems Catrachos are hard to escape. On the ship I met about 6 people from La Lima, San Pedro, La Ceiba, Roatan, Santa Rosa de Copan, and Yoro. Too weird!! They work for 7 months at a time and then go home for 2 months. We had some good laughs. One guy graduated from "El Patria" and his uncle works at FHIA. Go figure...

I hope everyone is well. We need to get busy and set the date for reunion #2. Cuidense, Mark

MY pain in the ass...

Well, Yvette, I have to admit your puppy is darn cute, but since we are now officially cat people, I thought I'd post a picture of my pain in the ass, Chessie. She's been with us 11 years, which really is longer than we knew to expect. Sometimes we just want to grab her by the tail and fling her into the neighbor's yard, because she's so demanding. In spite of her demands, we have become quite attached to her. Ty really didn't like cats until this one came into the picture. Now he bends over backwards for this creature....

my pain in the ass dog

These are my two little headaches, Jared and Hamlet. Hamlet is the white puppy, and as you can see, he is a social little fellow. They say you get payback with your kids, but in this case, I got it with this dog!

SOME MORE PHOTOS

Here are more photos. I have really enjoyed seeing you all. And I hope to see the rest soon. Now all these moments belong to my memory but defenitely you are all unforgettable. Guys my wife told me you are all good looking(remember I'm her reference!). She was honored to have met each of you and your wives and kids. It's been a very emotional weekend and I wish you all the best. Enjoy!!!

My Family Pictures

The first picture is of my son. He is 8 yrs. old. He will be 9 this Saturday. The second picture is of all my family. Each one of us with our son or daughter. The oldest one is Veronica's son. He's 15. The youngest one is Franklin's daughter. She's 3 months old.
This last picture is of me and my boy.

I was SO looking forward to seeing everyone....you'll have to have lots of fun on my behalf and please take plenty of pictures.

Maybe we can have the US version of the reunion for the rest of us.

Monica P news from her husband

I just got an email from Ty, Monica's husband. She is in the hospital for an unscheduled medical procedure and will need to postpone her trip. :( He mentioned it is not urgent or worrisome, but do keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Monica, we will miss you and wish you a speedy recovery.

Virgilio Alberto!! Reportese!

I figured maybe if I called you what your Mom called you when you were in trouble that you might respond! :) I wasn't sure you were checking this until you posted your address way down at the bottom.

I was surprised you didn't respond to Aldo's doctor's visit memoir about the time...you know!

(Oops, I regress!)

Let us know! See you soon!

Quien recuerda esto?

Monica P. was an addendum to our class, because of that huge brain she carries around. I remember Mrs. Davis coming up to Mrs. Avila when we were in line and they put Monica in there with us on the second day of school. She was with us ever since!

Bananapeople

I just got off the phone with Clyde Stephens in FL. He is the auther of a wonderful book about life in the tropics called "Bananpeople". You can read more about it at www.bananapeople.net. He has a few copies left and I know some of you have expressed an interest in this book. They cost $23 and I am happy to place an order and bring the books down next week. Simply let me know if you would like one and I can handle the rest. He is going out of town next week and I would like to place the order in a couple of days to make sure I get them in time. Thanks!

Aldo Corral

Kori and Monica B's contact

Wow! I just spoke to Kori and Monica and had yet more trips down memory lane! Kori plans to attend our reunion and is requesting tickets from TACA as we speak. Monica has 4 children (9, 3ish, 14 mo, and 5 weeks. YIKES!). They are all boys and during our 10 minute conversation one busted a lip in the pool and another fell into the pool filter. She wonders if they will all be like Troy! :) Her husband is out to sea (he is a sea captain) and she manages all this and teaches as well!!! You go girl! She is bummed at the prospect of missing the reunion and may find a way to get down after all. Monica B, we all completely understand if you can't, trust me!

Anyway, Kori's email is korija70@yahoo.com and Monica's is monicaloca@mchsi.com. Monica R, can you send an invitation to them por favor?

Monica B's phone #'s are 850-450-8838 and 850-936-6492. Please send them a message. I know they would both love to hear from all of you.

We found Adrian Lanza!

Ricardo Coto put Adrian in touch w/ me today and we had a very nice conversation. He has been living in Houston for the last 4 1/2 years and works in the real estate division of a credit union. He promises to post some pics and info soon. His sister Patty has 2 children and Maritza has 1. Their parents are also in Houston.

Monica, will you please send him an invite to the blog?

His contact info is klanza@houston.rr.com or alanza@fccuhouston.org. His phone #'s are 281-856-5531 or 832-620-2125. Bienvenido Adrian!

I am about to call Kori. Her # is 305-542-3595 should anyone also wish to call. She should lead us to Monica Bocock.

Back from Grand Cayman

Hola chavos! We just got back from Grand Cayman and had a wonderful time. Andrew and I got to go to Stingray city, which is a huge gathering spot for these amazing creatures. They would literally suck the squid we brought along for food right out of your hand. Weird!! We also went on a night snorkel adventure and saw more stingrays. lobsters, a moray eel, squid, cow fish, and various other night creatures. Elizabeth enjoyed the 4-7 year-old kid's club and made some new friends as well. Mom and Matthew were happy to relax by the pool with grandma Rowe. Hope everyone is well and I can't wait to see y'all!!
